California
Mountain Quail
The
Mountain Quail is probably the most beautiful of the Quail species. Found in the
Western US from Washington State to Baja, Mexico, these birds are normally found
in elevations of up to 10,000 ft. Their flight is usually short and explosive,
with many rapid wingbeats followed by a slow glide to the ground. They are very
fast on their feet and can run through brush and undergrowth faster than you can
shoulder your gun.
The birds are mostly gray,
with brown backs and tails. They have chestnut on their chest and wings. Their
plumes are black and stand straight up on their heads, which differs from Valley
quail as their plumes droop over their forheads. Male and females are simular
in appearance, with the males plume being longer than the female.
In
the gamebird breeding world these birds are one of the most sought after birds.
We supply these birds with Quaility Flight Conditioner feed and greens daily.
They do enjoy seeds and fuits as supplements
