Chuckar
Partridge
The
Chukar Partridge are found in rocky arid portions of the western U.S. Also, the
National bird of Pakistan. The Chukar offer a challenge for hunting enthusiasts.
Their running ability and the fact that they will climb a steep embankment, makes
the chase as fun as the find. They will flush and fly for a short distance, but
they are known for their quick footed escape. Your hunting dog with come in handy
for the retrieval as their primary habitats are rocky hilly areas.
These
birds are easily identifiable as they are typically gray in color with bright
red beaks, legs and feet. A white chin and neck and a black band that runs through
the eyes. A fairly large bird at about 10 to 12 inches in height, with a wing
span of about 16 inches, black, brown and white stripes can be found on both wings.
If you have ever seen a Chukar, you would never forget what they look like. The
male is slightly bigger that the female and they can weigh over a pound. They
are very hard to sex as their markings are so similar. The males do have a small
spur and are brighter red in the beak and legs.
These
birds are very vocal and sing a song of chuck-chuck-chukar-chukar.
The
chukar is a popular bird in the breeding community as they are easy to keep and
breed in captivity.

daily, they are ready for your hunting or breeding needs.
