Chuckar Partridge

The Chukar Partridge are found in rocky arid portions of the western U.S. Also, the National bird of Pakistan. The Chukar offer a challenge for hunting enthusiasts. Their running ability and the fact that they will climb a steep embankment, makes the chase as fun as the find. They will flush and fly for a short distance, but they are known for their quick footed escape. Your hunting dog with come in handy for the retrieval as their primary habitats are rocky hilly areas.

These birds are easily identifiable as they are typically gray in color with bright red beaks, legs and feet. A white chin and neck and a black band that runs through the eyes. A fairly large bird at about 10 to 12 inches in height, with a wing span of about 16 inches, black, brown and white stripes can be found on both wings. If you have ever seen a Chukar, you would never forget what they look like. The male is slightly bigger that the female and they can weigh over a pound. They are very hard to sex as their markings are so similar. The males do have a small spur and are brighter red in the beak and legs.

These birds are very vocal and sing a song of chuck-chuck-chukar-chukar.

The chukar is a popular bird in the breeding community as they are easy to keep and breed in captivity.

We raise these birds in open colony flight pens. Giving them plenty of insects, greens and flight conditioner daily, they are ready for your hunting or breeding needs.
